through the wifi connection! Great idea! Simple, clever…but what would it cost?

  3. William Burns William Burns Says:

I would suggest instead that a lower cost electronic barometer be used. this way costly wifi will not be an issue. and more or less just as accurate.

my first thought is: how silly. ihave never used an umbrella so it can rain or not
i don’t care. so that makes it a moot question as far as i am concerned. it may be technologically clever but really, so what(!!!???) doug

I love this idea, it’s creative. Unfortunately I think it wouldn’t work well because a lot of people just watch the news. But for people too busy for that it would come in handy!

I like this idea, but instead of wifi to know wheter its going to rain or not, why not using those special papers that changes colours when its about to rain? I’ve seen statues made with this paper, it’s pretty cool.

It’d be nice if you made a version with the collapsable umbrellas. I can never use the normal umbrellas. Just too bulky.

  8. Julian Julian Says:

Although it doesn’t use WiFi, you can already buy a predictive umbrella from Ambient Devices: http://www.ambientdevices.com/products/umbrella.html

It most likely works on sensing a sudden drop in barometric pressure. The electrics for this would be simple and not require much power. A very clever idea.
