I don’t think it needs quite so many tick marks around the edge, but it’s very nice.
I actually have to disagree with you about the tick marks. Since the shape of the clock has changed, even though it’s only a little bit, I think that having the familiar number of tick marks going around it helps your eyes follow it and figure out what time it is a little easier on the oddish shape.
