This is a parking stand design for congested bicycle parking. The sliding racks elevate bicycles up/down along the pole.
The control panel includes finger print recognition sensor with some controls for locking/unlocking the bicycle onto the stand. The panel branches out of the trunk at user friendly height.
For locking your bicycle 1. Take your bicycle to stand & place in the vertical slots 2. Manually lock the rim in slot 3. Press start on control panel 4. Give your finger print 5. OK/ CANCEL
For releasing bicycle follow the similar path. Finger print recognition makes connection between user & bicycle.

That, my friend, is a fantastic design for a bike rack. I’m sure they’d catch on very fast in metropolitan areas of Europe, but alas, we in America tend not to appreciate bike riders in the city. No wonder we’re fat…

This is amazing. Very aesthetically pleasing. Seems like it would be slightly more efficient than regular locking areas, since the vertical space of the bike is less than the horizontal space. Would it be enough to be implemented? Also there are safety concerns. This could be the beginning of something, though.

Tangentially, I imagine the FBI would use those fingerprint scanners to track dissidents, since everyone knows revolutionaries ride bicycles.

    wonderfull idea
maybe a bit “messy” whould look those trees,
but join the desing to some movil part that hide the tree under the ground and you will have a very usefull desing
other idea (just after visiting Stockholm central station) bicicle trees hunging from the bridges

    Very cool.

I think the controls could be simplified. Just have a fingerprint scanner that’s touch sensitive. You touch the scanner and if there’s a bike that was just locked in, it scans your finger and raises the bike. If there are no bikes on the ground waiting to be locked up, it instead looks for the bike associated with the print and lowers it. No need for start/ok/cancel.

    like it !

I could fit twice the amount of bikes in the space you are taking up, just by parking them in rows on the ground. Doesn’t solve the design issue.

Excellent Idea!!! not kidding! you should try to get in touch with the city administrations of Belgium and the Netherlands! these guys only use bikes to circulate in town so you might have a great chance with this (not sure about the fingerprint stuff but if adapted into codes…)
