Nor the pedals, nor the handle-bar function…how can you turn your way?

It appears to me that the entire front section of the bike turns to turn the front wheel left or right. It is essentially a very, very offset fork. Also, I can see how a band may run in the rear “O” section to turn the rear wheel. And there’s certainly enough room in the solid rear wheel for internal gears or, as the description states, a motor of some kind. It could work, but it would require some sophisticated engineering and the latest in materials science. But I would buy one. It’s a beautiful machine.

the bike pivots from the middle section and as somebody sayed it has all the gearing and motors in the rear wheel.

please see my site at www.thomasjowen.co.uk for more designs.

Insanity. No stability if the bike turns by pivoting at that rectangular-bracket. Everyone, look at that point again and consider how freakishly uncomfortable and daring every turn would be. If you look again…you’ll see it wouldn’t be possible to even ride this if the bike wanged side to side as it’s designed here.
There’s no transfer of motion between the pedals and either wheel. No workable gear system could ever fit in the narrow band between the pedals and the back wheel. Disconnecting a chain system after every use would be messy; this would be necessary singe chains don’t bend. Look again.

Looks nice at a glance but utterly inconceivable upon actually looking.

    What is folding bike stigma?

    stigma |ˈstɪgmə|
noun ( pl. stigmas or esp. in sense 2 stigmata |-mətə| |-ˈmɑːtə|)
1 a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person : the stigma of mental disorder | to be a nonreader carries a social stigma.
2 ( stigmata) (in Christian tradition) marks corresponding to those left on Jesus’ body by the Crucifixion, said to have been impressed by divine favor on the bodies of St. Francis of Assisi and others.
3 Medicine a visible sign or characteristic of a disease.
    • a mark or spot on the skin.
4 Botany (in a flower) the part of a pistil that receives the pollen during pollination.

I’ve never suffered from anything remotely related to any of the above.

Insulting potential customers is not a good plan and neither is ignoring the laws of physics.

    How much will it weigh?

  23. Davo Davo Says:

Some say it looks unsafe! Great, lets kick the ‘health and safety’ and ‘political correctness’ cretins in touch. A great design and who cares if it works or not, just use a big magnet and get pulled around by any passing ‘metal’ car!

I just have a hard time believing this would be comfortable. Especially if you needed to ride any considerable distance, the ergonomics of the seat just aren’t quite there. I know if I was riding 10 miles to work or school, I’d be a lot less likely to do it if I’d get there with a sore behind.

Also, what would it be made of? That would have a huge effect on how much it would weigh as well as how durable it is (or at least seems). For commuter biking, you want a bike that’s going to hold up, but for storage and portability, weight is the second biggest issue behind space. To me it just looks like stability and durability are being severely sacrificed for storability.

Really, how often to get somewhere and take the time to fold up your bike and carry it into a building? Maybe the better solution to this problem would be a bike with a built in locking system or security system with some elements of portability without so much comfort, durability and stability sacrificed.

On the positive side, I think this is a great attack at a problem that’s growing rapidly. How do we encourage people to commute on bikes when cars are so much easier? What happens when we HAVE to use bikes because gas is $10 per gallon? The overall design is definitely strong and I think very appealing in the way that the SegWays are beautiful. Its futuristic and technological, but still realistic and wouldn’t stick out as some “crazy invention” if you were riding it around town. Great Idea! Just needs some feasibility and human factors testing!
