Lucifer

Lucifer is a different vision of the domestic matches. A match box is usually used as a tool and not as a product. Lucifer is a match container to refill when empty. The aim of Lucifer is to reduce the steps to light on a match. It’s easier to get fire from a lighter than from a match but a match is more practical (try to light on a candle in a pot with a lighter, you’ll burn your nails). To take a match, you turn upside down Lucifer, and once the match wood is outside, the match’s head will be jamed by the gratter, pull the match to strike it on the orange gratter part. The match is automatically lighted. The gratter is made of a stone and can be used indefinitely. The base of Lucifer is made of glass to control the matches quantity inside, it is screwed on the top part to refill it.

Have you tested it? Would the sulfur receive enough oxygen in that chamber to light? I’d buy one.

    hi Chris,
yes, i’ve made a kind of model with a cylinder plastic box with a cap. on the cap i made a hole in which i inserted a rolled piece of gratter (picked from a classic box).
The match doesn’t light in the chamber, the reaction begins in the chamber but it burns once outside. Like on a classic box, the match light once it doesn’t touch the gratter anymore.
It’s pretty funny to test, it seems a bit magic, as if the match would light by it self!

What if you try to put a match in throught the gratter?

  4. clem clem Says:

:) The match would not burn because of the lack in oxygen inside. Or if it does, it would stop immediatly.

Fantastic! One of the best ideas i’ve seen, and really nice packaging. I’d maybe reconsider the materials though - glass?

Im sory but I dont beleave the oxigen story because I know oxigen comes free with the chemical reaction, thats one of the reasons why the matches burn so good. I think the concept is great! but I also beleave that this will be much more complicated than it looks in the drawing. (childsafty is an issue here thats one of the resons why people use ’safety’ matches) If you get it to work, congratz

Superb. Make a classy travel size/shape/material(s) for pipe smokers and you can charge a sweet premium in smoke shops. Consider a swivel closing top; but gah, it looks so perfect as is!

Unfortunately, I can’t associate that particular opening with anything but the sex doll for dogs. http://gizmodo.com/photogallery/hotdoll/1000386124

So this design has the match lighting inside the chamber housing the other matches. Could there be anything wrong with that idea? I suggest you only use it whilst outside.

I would suggest putting a “backup” grater strip on the side in case the intended one failed other than that fantastic design… i’d buy one
