Life for sale

2,799 Views * 7 views today

Most of the times we prefer to define shopping as something negative and degrading. The act of shopping is not the issue though. The issue is the product. It’s about what you buy. And what we buy is most of the times not productive. It brings no real fun and even when it does it’s limited and not long lasting. And what is the most productive thing in the known universe? Well, a human being, right? So why not turn a life of a human being into a product meant for sale?
And what happens when you buy a human life? Well, all the productivity of that life becomes for free. The more human lives are sold the more free stuff is available. The rich gets a new way to spend their money and the rest of the world saves on that.

    good as a joke, design exploration, consumerism criticism.

    I definitely hope you are not talking seriously,
    In fact, after visiting your site I understand that you sell yourself, right?

    but remember that this happened not so long time ago to lots of human beings and IT IS STILL HAPPENING in many parts of the world (both in the 1st and the 3rd)
    ;(

    @ xander,

    this is already a work in progress. it’s an experiment that it explores the potential of the unused wealth. it’s an idea on how we could bring free goods to this world. this could be simply achieved if every person kept only as much resources as he’d need to have a comfortable enough life according to his standards. I am trying to sell myself. and by buying me you’d make so that everything I produce in life will be for free and available to anyone.

    @what the?

    quite a wrong. it’s not about slavery at all. as a human life is sold it doesn’t become the property of the one who bought it but it’s only given a chance to offer his productive capabilities for free to the rest of the world. what the buyer gets in this case is nothing but the excitement of buying something as a human life. it’s bringing shopping on the next level where you buy simply because you can afford to buy it. that’s why show it with money. it’s about praising the act of shopping itself. and buying a human life sounds like the most there is to buy out there. is there anything more valuable than that?

    @ R2D2.0,

    yes, I am selling my life and it’s not a joke. and it has nothing to do with slavery at all. I am not selling my freedom or my physical existence. I am selling my productivity. which is what everybody does today. if you work you are selling yourself already. you are selling your productivity. the difference of my case is that my productivity will be available for free to everyone in this world and not just the buyer. the buyer will only get the chance to buy a human life which is an ultimate shopping experience. buying the most valuable thing there is. and by doing so he will not own me. I won’t be his slave. he will only buy my productivity and in this way make it free for the rest of the world. which in practice means that if I have web design skills you could call me and have your web site designed for free. because the idea behind is that a person should only demand as much resources as he needs to have a comfortable enough life. once these resources are obtained one should be able and willing to share his productivity free of charge. so, by buying me you’d simply make sure that I can pay all my life expenses. and when I can do that then I don’t need any more money right? so, that simply means that I can work for free. it means that my knowledge, my skills, my time can be given away for free.

    so, this has nothing to do with slavery at all.

    thanks for the explanation,
    I think I got it….

    so basically the “buyer” is in fact a “sponsor” and all you produce from that moment will be for free (aka Creative Commons?).

    The only thing that the buyer gets is the “experience of buying” but the productivity is available for anyone who needs it.

    so, you are looking for a life-long work with fixed salary.
    The only difference is that the “consumer” of your work-results will be “the community”, not the employee/buyer/sponsor.

    am I right?

    @ R2D2.0,

    yes. the idea is to try to turn the unused wealth into something the world can really benefit from directly in the form of free goods or services available to anyone.

    another thing is that whatever I will produce will be free of any copyright limitations. basically, if I made a piece of art you could get it for free, claim it as your own and sell it at whatever price you’d wish.

    what I am looking for is to be able to do what I like without having to think about how to survive at the same time. I want to have a life free of everything that I personally find so unnecessary but which is basically what our world is based on today. like self promotion, fame, profit making, ownership, etc.

    so, the idea is based on the supposition that there should be people who are rich enough to buy something just because they can afford to. because a lot of rich people buy things not because they really need them but simply to show their status or maybe to express what is important to them maybe. so, this idea is basically addressed to them first of all. it’s just adding another “product” on their shopping list. then there are people who just want to do what they like in life without having to think how to pay their bills. people who are not interested in making a profit or in becoming rich but they just want to survive doing what they do or like best. so, by selling their lives this is exactly what they might get. and finally, there are people, like most of us who of course wouldn’t mind if certain things in life would come for free as well. so, these three aspects are what my idea reflects on.

    it gets more understanable here: http://www.showitwithmoney.com/products.html

    basically he’s selling his freedom of choice what to do for a living. you pay him and he works as a photographer.. and will be doing it for at least 25 years.

    actually… he just says: i want to have a job, like anyone else does, but don’t wanna choose and i won’t quit (at least for 25 years).

    sounds stupid*, i like it.

  8. Show it with money! Show it with money! Says:

    @ tom,

    I am not really selling my freedom of choice. because the fact that I am selling my life doesn’t mean that I will accept to do anything a buyer might request. so, I am for sale but you can only buy me if I agree to it first.

    and again it’s not so much about having a job. it’s about a very simple idea which I think at the same time can become very complex once you start reflecting about all that it does imply. just for example think why would anyone want to buy me? or how acceptable is to sell a life? can a life be seen as a product? why do some people buy expensive cars, houses, properties, anything even if they never really use anything of those? so, why not buy something they won’t really benefit from about from the fact that they bought it? it has a lot to do about reflecting on the meaning and purpose of wealth. how much sense does it make to keep more money that you will ever be able to spend? then it’s also about asking yourself why keep taking from our society once you got enough for your own existence? have you ever asked yourself like why does it make sense for U2 to keep selling records even now that they are big millionaires? why don’t they just make music for free? and let people save in this way? why do they need more than they already have which is already more than they will ever be able to spend? of course the answer is because that’s how our economy works but why is it so? why not do things that are possible especially if these things might have a positive effect on the whole society. so, why not just think differently? I mean, can you imagine walking into a art gallery, taking a painting off the wall and take it home for free? wouldn’t such a possibility add a new quality to your life? and that would be perfectly possible if that artists had all he needed for his existence and would decide to make art for free. and by offering my life for sale I am just trying to start the process which might make this possible. It’s simply an experiment which aims to explore if such an idea might work for real. of course I highly doubt our world is going to turn in this direction but still it might be a path worth exploring. and actually this concept is nothing really new. what is different from what we got is maybe just how things are defined. like you don’t have a sponsor or sponsors which would support an individual or a group of people to achieve or do something. but you have a human life as a product which you can buy. for example when you go and you buy a playstation 3, no one would say you are sony’s sponsor right? even if in a way you are. but you are most likely a consumer. and it would be the same in the case when you’d buy a human life when it would come as a product. so, my concept even if not original per se is packed into a completely different context and meaning.

  10. Show it with money! Show it with money! Says:

    @tom,

    well, one could even say that’s what I am trying to do. just in a different way. you know tom, what you will probably never understand is that there is no right or wrong way to do things. it’s just that some people try to use their creativity and look for new ways. even if stupid* at times. while most of the people just do what they were told to and do it in the way they were told to. and sometimes that’s the best way anyway. I don’t really think you took time to understand what is behind this idea. you just took the most typical prjudice that is out there and thought you made sense. people are different. I think that’s one of the main reasons we don’t live in caves anymore.
