Because of the recent concern over leaching chemicals in plastic baby bottles, Babylife is reintroducing glass baby bottles, but with a new design and safety twist: the bottle is covered with a modern sleeve that will help protect the bottle from breakage and also prevent bumping into other articles in your diaper bag. This sleeve is free of plastics and is 100% non-toxic.

But, you are still using Plastic! What kind of plastic is it? and I find it maybe too heavy for a 6 month old to practice holding his/her own bottle when there is liquid inside. How thin is this glass? and what are the possibilities of it breaking (not considering thickness) when thrown on the floor by them(very common) and if way to thin, what is the risk of it breaking in a little one’s hand? The safety part doesn’t add up!

In response to ASPEN: A 6-12 month old baby shouldn’t be holding his/her own bottle! That’s mommy or daddy’s job, part of bonding. And bottle feeding should be stopped at 1yr according to my dentist.

In response to GLASS BOTTLES: I love glass bottles and it’s amazing to see how excited people are when they know you are helping protect your little ones from the dangers of plastics. Just protect yourself to by not leaving plastic water bottles in the sun, or better yet, buy glass! The sleeve is great for parents like myself who have left a bottle on the bed and it falls off and shatters. I’m all for it!

Hmm…There must be some low-cost/weight & high-strength ceramics out there. Glass just seems too heavy and shatter-prone for a young’n.

  9. Anne Anne Says:

I used glass for my two children 13 and 11 now when they were babies, have a baby on the way yrs. later and am happy glass is back, like your idea for gripping the bottle!

  10. Anya Anya Says:

The only thing is, the weight, and it being crushed, because the glass is far denser than plastic & well the rubber covering is really not resistant to pressure in the sense that if something were to fall on or crush it. I mean if you’re using shatter-proof glass then it’s no big deal, but I mean it still ruin the bottle and would result in you having to replace it, so maybe it’s not as durable as you would think.

I was at Walmart last week and they now carry a silicon sleeve made by Munchkin, I think! Anyways, my baby stopped the bottle just before age 1. So now I have a bunch of glass baby bottles, who knows, maybe I need 1 more child. I only broke 2 bottles out of maybe 30. Not to bad, wonder if they would have broke had I had the sleeve on? Probably not, I had dropped the glass bottles on other occasions without breaks, only from the chair onto wood or carpet. I examined them well for any hairline fractures too, just to be safe!

Go Glass!!! It’s the best, I’d never go back!
