Pip: All smokers know that sometimes all your left with are empty containers as your "ashtray" so this is a cool way to ash into these makeshift ashtrays....

who would look under a plate for a hidden compartment? It’s just not logical. Great idea, but i would consider Phil’s suggestion.
They’d be taking the plate off to take a late off. Not to find the hidden compartment, that would be inadvertent.
I would serve soup from this.
