Silly, going to end in tears .... but we've all done it or something like it, why not make money off it for a brief period until you realise that trolley-nabbing is illegal, so even if your gizmo is not, it will be assumed you're one of the poverty-stricken types who nabs trolleys to wheel your groceries home, in whatever capacity it'll allow you. Needs clear marking to avoid this ... still, I doubt it'll work to deter most from thinking you've simply put decals on your stolen trolley.
